All the French toast They already appeared back in the XNUMXth century, as restorative for women in labor and associated with Lent. That is why they are held on Carnival dates. There are many variants of torrijas since they can be accompanied by sugar instead of honey or in syrup.
Ingredients
- Slices of stale bread.
- 2 glasses of milk
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Pieces of orange or lemon peel.
- Honey.
- Ground cinnamon.
- 125 g of sugar.
- 1 egg.
- Oil for frying.
Preparation
To make this typical recipe of French toast, first we will cut slices of about 2-3 cm thick of stale bread. The slices must be fat, since being dry and hard bread they will absorb too much milk and we will not be able to handle ourselves well later.
In a small saucepan or pot, we will cook the two glasses of milk together with cinnamon stick and sugar. Let it heat up for about 4-5 min over low heat, to flavor the milk. Do not bring it to a boil.
Once the milk has been flavored, we will let it temper a little and then we will pour over the slices of bread. These must be on a deep dish. You have to turn it only once and with great care so that they are soaked on both sides.
Finally, we will go through I beaten egg and we will fry it in a pan with plenty of oil and with a lemon or orange slice to add flavor to the torrijas. To decorate them we will use honey or sprinkle icing sugar or ground cinnamon on top.
