Sweet braid and brioches

When I brought you the eggless crêps I told you how messy I am with sweet recipes (when they have dough). From that moment until today things have not changed much, but it seems that it is improving and for me it has been a big surprise because, I am honest, I mounted a whole odyssey when making the dough thinking that it would not turn out well. This dough takes time to rise, because when that time passed, my dough had not risen an inch. I took the container ready to throw the dough in the trash, but then I thought that maybe google could find me a solution so, since it had to leave, I left it as is.

When I arrived, my surprise was immense, the dough had risen! So happier than an 8 and at night I started to do my sweet braid and a few buns.

Braid

Degree of difficulty: Easy

Preparation time: 10 minutes + 2 hours of rising + 10-15 minutes of oven

Ingredients:

  • 500 gr flour
  • About 100 gr of sugar (and a little more for decoration)
  • A quarter of a liter of milk
  • 50 gr butter
  • 20 gr fresh yeast
  • 2 eggs (one of them to paint)
  • A little bit of shawl

Preparation:

Dissolve the yeast in a little warm milk. In a container add the sugar, all the milk, egg, A little bit of shawl, butter and flour. Knead everything for 10 minutes until you get an elastic and slightly sticky dough. Transfer to another lightly floured bowl, cover and let it rise for 2 hours.

Sweet braid and brioches

Once this time has passed, divide the dough into 4 parts and flour them a little. Lightly grease a baking tray (you can also use baking paper) and, with 3 of these parts, make three cylinders with which you will shape the braid. With the other part, make small balls and flatten them slightly. Paint everything with a beaten egg. For the decoration, sprinkle sugar on the braid and, for the brioches, use sugar moistened in water.

Once everything is placed on the tray, it should be allowed to rise again until it doubled in size and then put the tray in the oven for 10-15 minutes at 180º (it can vary from one oven to another), but I with the time it was I did not wait any longer and put everything in the oven directly, skipping the step of raising. And this was the result.

When serving ...

I served them as is and then each one was accompanied by what they wanted, but you can present them already filled with both something sweet and salty.

Recipe suggestions:

  • I made a braid and brioches just to test which way we liked it best and, although the dough is the same, the brioches were much more successful, so next time I will make brioches with all the dough.
  • Another option is to make a large braid with all the dough and present it already filled.
  • You could add more ingredients to the dough such as chocolate chips, nuts or even mix melted chocolate in a part of the dough so that then brioches or a two-color braid come out.

The best…

Children love both sweet and salty filling and something homemade is better than something industrial ...
