Sugary and honey torrijas, special for Easter
Next week comes the eastern and with it many desserts and typical recipes of these traditional festivals. One of the most required are the famous torrijas, whether they are sugary or dipped in honey, a very tasty sweet for a snack.
This recipe is quite traditional since it was made in the past to take advantage of stale bread that was left from the day before. In this way, hunger could be overcome in those hard times.
Ingredients
- Stale bread.
- I beaten egg.
- Sugar.
- Ground cinnamon.
- Honey.
- Milk.
- Cinnamon stick.
- Vanilla essence.
- 125 g of sugar.
- Sunflower oil
Preparation
First, we must flavor the milk. To do this, we will simmer it with the cinnamon stick, a teaspoon of vanilla essence and the 125 g of sugar. This milk should not boil, just heat it for about 8 minutes.
We will let this milk warm and we will go cutting the bread into 1,5 cm thick slices. We will place these on a large and deep source.
On these slices we will pour the milk flavored, letting it soak for a few minutes. We'll flip it over and let it soak through the other side.
Meanwhile, let's go whisking the beaten egg and mixing the ground cinnamon with the sugar. This mixture will be for the torrijas that we want sugary.
Finally, we will egg the slices soaked in milk, and the we will fry in abundant oil hot. We will drain on absorbent paper and then we will coat them with the mixture of sugar and ground cinnamon or we will bathe them in honey.
