The biggest "difficulty" in making these sandwiches is caramelize the onion; not because of the process itself, but because it requires a little time and patience. The wait is undoubtedly worth it. Ingredients
Per serving
- 2 slices of sliced bread
- 1/2 large onion
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 1 teaspoon of brown sugar
- 80 gr. grated cheese
- Sal Island
- Pepper
Crafting
We start by preparing the caramelized onion. To do this, heat a tablespoon of butter in a pan. When it melts, add the onion, salt and pepper to taste. Cook over medium heat for a few minutes until the onion is tender and then add the brown sugar. We stir and cook 15-20 minutes until it caramelizes, always monitoring the temperature so that it does not burn.
We assemble the sandwich, putting the caramelised onion and cheese on a slice of sliced bread. We cover with another slice and butter the outer covers of the sandwich.
We heat a nonstick skillet and we cook the sandwich on both sides until the bread is browned and the cheese has melted.
We serve hot.
Notes
If you get lost and the onion burns, you can always add a few drops of water and stir the mixture to continue cooking the onion later.
