El homemade mashed potatoes It is a perfect accompaniment for both meat and fish and can serve as a base to prepare a delicious meatloaf. It requires little work and its basic ingredients allow us to add mashed potatoes to our menu unexpectedly.

This mashed potatoes in particular, turns out by itself delicious as an accompanimentHowever, I have decided to enrich it with a little grated cheese and give it a hit in the oven. Children will love it and the older ones will enjoy this rich puree that you can present in individual casseroles.

Ingredients

For 2 individual casseroles

  • 400 g. of patatos
  • 40 g. of butter
  • 150 g. milk (hot)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • Cheese
  • Water

Crafting

We start by peeling the potatoes and cutting them into quarters (not the "skins", make clean cuts with a sharp knife). We then put them in a saucepan, cover them with cold water, add salt and heat. Once it starts to boil we will need between 20-25 minutes to cook the potatoes.

With the help of a slotted spoon, we remove the potatoes to a bowl and we smash with a fork. Add the butter cut into cubes and continue working with the fork. The butter will melt with the heat of the potatoes.

Next we will add the hot milk little by little and working with the same fork until the desired consistency is achieved; not too thick, not too light. Finally the pepper, the nutmeg are added and the salt point is corrected.

We can also taste our mashed potatoes, presented in casseroles, or gratin it. To do this, we just have to scratch cheese on each casserole, add a nut of butter and bring to the oven for 15 minutes in grill mode at maximum temperature.

It is preferable to serve the mashed potatoes freshly so that it does not lose texture. If for a long time you decide to do it before and reserve it in the fridge, the best way to reheat it will be Bain-marie, adding a few drops of milk and stirring to incorporate them. After the water bath you can distribute it in the appropriate container for the final gratin.
