There is nothing like enjoying a hot plate on cold days but, generally, they are dishes well loaded with calories. Lentils in particular are very necessary in our diet due to their iron content, although cooking them in a traditional way would add about 800 calories ... What do you think if we lighten this dish a bit to reduce the caloric intake?

What we are going to do is eliminate the classic additions of this recipe and we are going to cook it using only garlic and spices, in this way they will be much lighter but equally rich, suitable to get ready to lose those extra pounds.

Preparation time 0 min.

Cooking time: 10 min. (in a pressure cooker)

Ingredients

  • 250 gr. lentils
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 Tomate
  • Olive oil
  • Half a tablespoon of ground cumin
  • Half a tablespoon of sweet paprika
  • Pinch ginger powder
  • Sal Island
  • Pepper

Crafting

In a pot we are going to put the oil to heat over low heat, when it is hot we will add the garlic cloves, crushed and unpeeled. We will let them cook but without turning brown and then we will add a liter and a half of water. We go up to medium heat and we are going to grate the tomato, which we will add when the water begins to boil along with the cumin, paprika, ginger, pepper and salt.

We let it boil until the lentils are done, in the case of a conventional pot it may take about an hour, in pressure cookers it would be around 10 minutes (if we have previously soaked them).

In my case, it was the main and only dish, although it can also be served as a first course or we can accompany it with a salad.

Recipe tips

  • If you prefer that they have something else you can add potato or carrot, although you should bear in mind that, in that case, the calories would increase.
  • If you don't like ginger, you can do without it, although I recommend you try it because it is just a pinch that gives a different touch to the recipe without its particular flavor being particularly noticeable.

    This recipe and other varieties based on lentils have already been published by you and I always make them with the canned ones (it's already hot here). The sandwich is also delicious but with the bacon I pass. .
