Chai tea recipe, low in calories

Chai tea

Chai or masala chai tea has become very popular in Spain and other countries thanks to the famous Starbucks, although this tea is originally from India and is something that they have been preparing for a long time. In India we can find vendors called Chai Wallahs where we can buy our delicious spiced tea at any time, although it is usual to consume it in the morning, just like we drink coffee.

Actually the recipe is very varied, each family gives it a personal touch, and the best thing is that we can adapt it to our tastes and needs. The recipe that I bring you has been the one that I liked the most, but in the end I leave you some variations that are usually made so that you can take it in other ways until you find your favorite.

Ingredients

  • Water
  • A tablespoon of black tea
  • Half a cinnamon stick
  • 3 cardamom pods
  • 2 slices of ginger
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 black peppercorns
  • Sugar to taste

Crafting

We put all the spices in a saucepan with the water and bring to a boil. Let it simmer for a few minutes and then turn off the heat, let it rest for five minutes. We serve with the amount of sugar that we like the most and that's it.

Notes

  • You can add milk, with that we would have a Chai latte. It is recommended that the milk be skimmed or soy.
  • There are those who do not put pepper or cardamom in it.
  • You can add nutmeg.
  • The one sold at Starbucks has around 120 calories, it can vary depending on whether we take it with or without milk.
