Pan de Muerto, recipe for All Saints' Day

Pan de muerto

When the month of November arrives, we all wait until the end of the month to worship our dear departed. Not only going to cemeteries to bring her flowers and prepare her tombstones, but also to make sweets typicaland traditional like the bones of the saint or like this bread of the dead that I present to you today.

This bread is very similar to typical pastriesThey can be eaten as breakfast accompanied by a rich jam, or as a snack, with some type of sausage. I, in particular, opted for ounces of chocolate, and ... I died of the taste of flavors !!

Ingredients

  • 250 g of strength flour.
  • 50 g of butter.
  • 5 g of instant baker's yeast or 15 g of fresh yeast.
  • 1 teaspoon salt.
  • 65 g of sugar.
  • 1 large egg
  • 60 g of milk.
  • Zest of half an orange.
  • 1 egg and sugar to paint the bread of the dead.

Preparation

In a bowl, we will put all the ingredients except the butter and we will begin to knead well until a dough is formed. At that moment is when we begin to add the butter, until we get a sticky and elastic dough. Let it ferment until it doubles in size (between 30-1h).

Afterwards, we knead again to degas the mass. Next, we will take a third of the dough and make some churros and then put our fingers on top, to make a kind of bones. With the others, we will make a ball. We will place the two bones on top of the ball and let it ferment again.

Finally, we will paint the entire mass with the beaten egg and sprinkle with normal sugar. We will put in the oven some 25 minutes at 180ºC.
