There is nothing I like more than a homemade sponge cake topped with candied orange. It is something so simple and lifelong that it deserves that we dedicate a little of our time to know and know its elaboration. We can make this recipe for oranges and freeze them in six-by-six packets. So for when it comes in handy in a recipe, it is only to take it out of the freezer.
With them we can not only decorate some cakes or milk buns, if we cannot make granola at home and cut the orange slices into strips. Its preparation is super simple, we just need a little of our time. Without a doubt it is a delicacy that can turn a normal sweet into something very special!
- 3 naranjas
- 400 g sugar
- 200 gr of water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Clean the skin of the oranges well with a brush.
- Cut the oranges into thin slices, but not very thin either, otherwise they will break when cooked.
- In a saucepan with water and salt, add the orange slices. Cook them over low heat until it starts to boil. After 5 minutes remove from the heat and cool the orange slices under the tap. This process is important as this will remove the bitterness from the orange.
- Now, let's start to preserve the oranges. In a saucepan put the 200gr of water together with the sugar, and the oranges. To confit them we need them to cook for an hour and 15 minutes. So patience friends kitchenettes! Move occasionally.
- After the cooking time has elapsed, put the oranges together with all the juice from the saucepan in a bowl or tupperware that we will refrigerate for 24 hours.
- It's already past 24 hours! Put the orange slices on a rack so that it releases all its syrup, which of course we have to take advantage of. Quite a delicacy!
